There is a mystery and wonder
to the work of God in our lives that stretches far beyond our finite understanding. The Lord says, "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways
higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9)
Yet within God’s eternal plan are wonderful promises for the here and
now.
God’s plan involves eternity,
but He has a specific purpose for our time here on earth. If only we could always see our lives from
God’s perspective! In this world we walk
by faith, we see “…but a poor reflection as in a
mirror…” (I Cor. 13:12).
Yet God has given us the steady and sure light of His Word to guide us
through. The Scriptures says, “However, as it is
written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who
love him” — but God has revealed
it to us by his Spirit.” (I
Cor. 2:9-10)
Through the Spirit we are able
to understand “…what God has freely given
us.” (I Cor. 2:12) In order to truly
know God’s purposes they must be searched out.
Like a man mining for gold we search out the deep things of God.
Sometimes it is hard to
understand what God is doing, to discern His will. God weaves His plan into our lives through the
tapestry of seasons. We don’t always see
it at first but He weaves into our lives the beauty of His purpose. We look back at what He has done and marvel
at the wonder of His work. Truly He
makes all things beautiful in His time. (see Ecclesiastes
3:10-14)
God doesn’t do things according
to our timetable, but by His own set purpose.
The end result will be beautiful.
In fact, I believe it will be far more glorious than we may have
originally realized. We have to allow
our faith to stand the test of time and see the beauty of what God will
accomplish.
The Apostle Peter said,
“Praise be to the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new
birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the
dead, and into an
inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith
are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to
be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly
rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all
kinds of trials. These have come so
that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined
by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when
Jesus Christ is revealed.” (I Peter 1:3-7)
Who
can put a value on the work of God in a person’s life? You may be going through some trials now, but
what God is doing inside of you is of immeasurable value. What He is doing in you is precious and pure
and holy.
